KANPUR: Farmers of several villages on late Monday night once again allegedly broke open the locks of a Basic Government School in Takha area of Etawah and herded cattle inside it.

When teachers and students came to school on Tuesday morning, they found about 200 bovines herded inside the school.

This came close on the heels of Monday incident wherein the police had slapped section 7 of the Criminal Law Amendmnet Act against four farmers, who broke open the locks of a Basic School in Lalpur village of Maheva block in Bakewar area of the district.

Sources said that the matter was immediately brought to the notice of senior district officials by the school’s headmaster Anil Dubey.

“Initally, farmers refused to let the cows free and instead demanded construction of ‘gaushalas’ where stray animals can be shifted,” said a source.

The situation could be pacified after SDM Takha Satya Prakash rushed to the spot and assured farmers of prompt action into their demands,” the source added.

The animals, which remained locked in the school for nearly 14 hours, were evacuated with the help of nagar palika employees, the source further said.
