Bhayandar: BJP corporator in soup after Shiv Sena leaders protest illegal demolition
Bhayandar: In a major setback and embarrassment to the BJP, the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) has finally taken a tough stand against their corporator- Madan Singh for demolishing a boundary wall being built by the civic contractor to safeguard a vacant plot in the RNP park area of Bhayandar (East) last week. Naming the BJP corporator for his suspected involvement in the illegal act, MBMC’s Executive Engineer- Deepak Khambit in his letter to the local police station has sought necessary action in this context.
The action followed after Madan Singh’s Sena counterpart in the civic body- Neelam Dhawan on Monday launched an agitation in the form of an indefinite hunger strike at the MBMC headquarters to register her protest against the civic administration for shielding the corporator. Following the episode, The PWD officials immediately dashed off a letter to the police.
In an attempt to pave way for installation of playing equipment and an open air gym, the wall was being built to enclose the plot which was not only used to dump garbage, but was also frequented by junkies, officials said. “Despite of the fact that a work order was duly awarded to the contractor, Singh trespassed his jurisdiction and himself razed the wall. By doing this, he has obstructed official work and should be booked and disqualified from his post in accordance to the law.” charged Dhawan.
Refuting the charges as baseless, Singh has maintained that the wall being built on the road was bound to hinder pedestrian movement. “Based on the strong opposition registered against the construction of the wall by local residents, I had already requested the administration to cancel the work,” he said. The incident has yet again exposed the strained relationship between the BJP and its former ally Shiv Sena, which seems to be going from bad to worse, every passing day.
