FIR against student who posted derogatory remarks against Army

NAINITAL: Nainital police on Sunday filed an FIR against a 20-year-old engineering student for posting ‘derogatory remarks’ against the Indian Army and the country.Sources said that a case has been filed under sections 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 153 (wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riot) of the Indian Penal Code.
“An investigation in the matter is currently underway,” Sunil Kumar Meena, senior superintendent of police, Nainital district, told TOI.
Meanwhile, the second-year engineering student, who had been detained by the police after Sunil Singh Mehta, a resident of Shyamkhet and a ward member of a local urban body, complained about the FB post, was granted bail by a sessions court.
The student, who hails from Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramula district, was also suspended by the university administration after the matter came to light on Friday.
