BHOPAL: There seems to be no respite from cold wave in Madhya Pradesh. In one of the coldest winters of recent times, Bhopal experienced "severe cold wave" conditions on Monday. Twenty-seven districts across the state recorded minimum temperatures in single digit on Monday.

Along with Khajuraho and Naugaon in Chhatarpur district, Datia and Mandla also recorded a minimum temperature of 3 degrees Celsius on Monday. They were colder than the hill station of Pachmarhi where a minimum temperature of 6 degrees Celsius was recorded on Monday.

Bhopal recorded a minimum temperature of 6.4 degrees Celsius on Monday. Weatherman predicts similar weather conditions to prevail for at least the next two days.

No respite likely from cold wave in 48 hrs, says Met

In meteorological department parlance, a cold day is observed when the maximum temperature goes down by 4.5 degrees Celsius or more from the average maximum temperature. On Monday, the maximum temperature recorded in Bhopal was 19 degrees Celsius which was 7 degrees Celsius below the normal.

Weathermen said, “This is fifth cold wave of the season in Bhopal in the current winter season. Except for the few days, wintery conditions continued for almost two months in one stretch making it one of the longest winters because of back to back western disturbances over Jammu and Kashmir.”

Besides Bhopal, Indore with 20 degrees Celsius — 8 degrees Celsius below the normal – and Jabalpur 21 degrees Celsius — 5 degrees Celsius below the normal — also experienced the cold day on Monday.

The meteorological department (IMD) has issued a warning for ground frost in the districts of Gwalior, Ujjain, Sagar, Hoshangabad and Rewa. It also warned of cold day in the districts of Sagar, Jabalpur, Hoshangabad, Indore, Bhopal, Rewa, Ujjain, Shahdol and Chambal divisions. Besides, the weather office also warned of cold wave in the districts of Sagar, Ujjain, Hoshangabad, Gwalior, Chambal, Bhopal, Rewa, Jabalpur and Indore divisions.

Weatherman said, “similar weather system is likely to continue for at least two days. From Wednesday, there is a possibility of rise in both the minimum and maximum temperatures.”
