Actor Vicky Kaushal started the year with a massive success at the box office, giving Bollywood its first hit film of 2019 with 'Uri: The Surgical Strike'. Debutant director Aditya Dhar's film is continuing its tremendous run at the box office, past the first week. The film saw an excellent first-week collection at the box office and very well managed to break the dominance held by Ranveer Singh starrer 'Simmba'. The movie has crossed the Rs. 90 crore mark and is aiming at the Rs 100 crore club. 'Uri' clashed with Anupam Kher's 'The Accidental Prime Minister' at the box office, both centered on nationhood and patriotism. The film which released on January 11 was very well applauded by the audience.

According to the latest report by BoxofficeIndia.com, on its second Saturday, the film has managed to collect Rs 12.75 crore on its ninth day at the box office. The first-week collection of the film stands at a total of Rs 70 crore. The film has till now managed to collect Rs 90.50 crore at the box office in nine days. The film had a very good first weekend and the way the film is going it could mean that the second weekend could actually gross more than the first weekend.

The film is based on the surgical strikes carried out on September 29, 2016, by the Indian Army on terrorist launchpads across the Line of Control. The strikes were carried out in retaliation to a terrorist attack on an army camp at Uri earlier that month.

Written and directed by Aditya Dhar, 'Uri: The Surgical Strike' is produced by Ronnie Screwvala. 'Uri' was announced by the producer after one year of the surgical strike in September 2017. The film also stars Paresh Rawal, Kirti Kulhari, and Mohit Raina in lead roles.
