Srijit Mukherji’s ‘Shah Jahan Regency’ sees Abir Chatterjee breaking down his role as he plays one of the leads Samiran Bose. You may find an uncanny similarity between his character name and Uttam Kumar’s character Sata Bose in the 1968 cult classic ‘Chowringhee’ but Srijit has already made it clear his film adaptation focuses on the whole story instead of one particular character.
Since its release last Friday, ‘Shah Jahan Regency’ is winning hearts backed the pillar of powerful performances from the entire cast. While speaking about the challenges of playing a character similar to Sata Bose, Abir Chatterjee opens up about the challenges he faced portraying such an interesting role.

“I was well aware of the pressure that would be on me as Sata Bose is still an iconic character, not only in the book but also in the film adaptation. A lot of emotions attached to this character. I believe it’s one of the top five characters portrayed by Uttam Kumar. I knew there will be pressure, criticism and comparisons. It’s inevitable. Also, there was no character brief because we all know who and how Sata Bose is. Believe me, that’s also the trickiest part of the character I played,” explained Abir.
